Referee Information

ALL REFEREES FOR ALL EVENTS MUST REGISTER WITH tournament chairman, Richard Yusem

Payment for refereeing is guaranteed if you register, and is contingent upon an as -needed basis on that day if you did not pre-register.

The USFA is beginning to require rated referees for Division and Sectional qualifiers. If you are a rated referee and want to be included in the NJ Division Referee database, send an email to Richard and your record will be added and updated with your availability. You can view our referee database - Click here.

We especially need referees for our large events.

If you are a referee-in-training and want to gain practical experience, let the bout committee of any other regularly scheduled division event know -- if you intend to also fence in that event, you will be entitled to a free entry in return for your service.

If you have a rating in one weapon and would like to start refereeing in another weapon, let us know -- we can use you in the pool rounds, and will observe you and make recommendations for your rating. Please let us know in advance if you want to be observed.

If due to the volume of competitors (although we encourage pre-registration it is not mandatory as per USFA bylaws -- we accept entries at the door, with penalty fee, and the largest un-pre-registered number we have seen is 15), you are asked by the bout committee to assist in the back-office operations, we will also pay you for your help.

If you are only comfortable refereeing in the pool rounds, please be advised that if you run a DE tableau from the floor, that will also count as refereeing for payment. This also applies to setup and breakdown of strips. In your e-mail, please let us know if you are available for these other crucial competition support areas.
